MINNEAPOLIS—Acclaimed family entertainers Go Fish are capping a groundbreaking season following the unprecedented success of their debut curriculum, Backstage with the Bible: A Vacation Bible School Experience. In the United States and Canada, 350 churches utilized the VBS program, while Go Fish performed for a combined total of nearly 30,000 people this summer alone.
In addition to their regular touring schedule, the group presented 25 VBS-related concerts from New York to California. They saw capacity crowds in multiple cities and also added additional shows in select markets.
First Baptist Woodway in Waco, Texas, selected the Go Fish curriculum and had more than 1400 children at this year’s VBS. “We found it to be the most ‘life impacting’ VBS we have ever experienced, with a crystal clear convicting message that kids took to heart,” said Heather Hutchison, children’s minister, First Baptist Woodway. “A record number of decisions were made for Jesus. Our teachers loved its content, and ease of usability in both planning and teaching. We will choose Go Fish VBS curriculum again!”
Self-published and distributed exclusively via www.gofishguys.com/vbs, Backstage with the Bible: A Vacation Bible School Experience takes children to the ultimate concert experience each day to worship and sing with the Go Fish Guys. It also offers kids “backstage” access and a tour of a recording studio, all as they learn foundational truths such as the 10 Commandments, the books of the Bible, and most importantly, how to be saved by grace through faith.
“As dads, we were noticing that when our kids went to VBS, there wasn’t an actual Bible to be found,” said Go Fish founding member Jamie Statema. “Because of our music and our relationship with so many churches already, we decided that we were in a unique position to change this. I must admit, the reaction to our very first curriculum has simply blown us away. The kids are having a blast, leaders are fired up, and most importantly, kids are getting hands on exposure to the Bible while hearing the gospel of Jesus Christ!”
An updated version of Backstage with the Bible: A Vacation Bible School Experience is now available for summer 2010 use. New starter kits will feature ideas and additional content from churches that utilized the program this year.
Dove Award-nominated Go Fish has been covered by such national media as the “Today” Show, American Profile and Focus on the Family magazine, among other outlets. The group’s live performances have attracted sell-out crowds across the country, including an audience of 14,000 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota.
